Whether It’s MeMe or Me Me, Today It’s About Me!

By Shailesh Ghimire, January 21, 2008 at 3:33 pm

It’s MeMe time. And I got tagged, thanks Lani. Sure pick the foreign kid first, he doesn’t know what’s going on anyways, right? :-)

So, here are the rules for a MeME: (1) list 7 things about yourself, (2) tag 7 people to do the meme on themselves including a link to their site.

So in case you are interested here are a few things about me:

1. I am from Nepal and NO, I have not climbed Mt. Everest or met the Dalai Lama!

2. I know the 9 digit value for the speed of light (in meters/second).

3. In High School I played Duncan in MacBeth and Bernardo in West Side Story.

4. I can not understand why anybody would play Cricket let alone WATCH it on TV!

5. I would love to visit all the seven man-made wonders of the world.

6. I first surfed the Internet using Mosaic back in early 1994 and consider the Internet my first love! Thanks for your understanding Aimee.

7. I love beer, coffee, chocolate chip cookies, cheesecake and fried MoMos! Thank God for a metabolism that hasn’t slowed down!

Did I wet your curiosity? No worries. I did a more detailed version of this on ActiveRain last fall (log-in required).

So, here are my seven victims: Christoph, Heather, Ginger, Kevin, April, McKenzie and Benn (the genius himself!)

8:20 pm Update: Lani alerted me that both April and Benn have been tagged already. So, I’m adding two others. Here’s to you Valorie and Drew.

Jay,

We’ll see. I have a few more years yet before the big 4 and 0! Until then I’m gonna enjoy the ride!

I’m still sitting here at 9pm eating the rest of the box of Cheez-its, enjoying the remaining moments of my grace period too, Shailesh!

You’ll be happy to know that Benn & April are immune to your being tagged as they’ve already been victims of this meme. :) 2 down, 4 to go!

Lani,

Thanks for the heads up. I’ll add two others. This is kind of fun!

Ah - perhaps I can explain why we in England watch cricket on TV.

Basically, there has been a programme called “Test Match Special” running on BBC _radio_ since 1957. It’s advertised as a commentary on the cricket, but in fact it’s basically a rambling commentary on anything and everything. There are long-standing presenters, and every so often, guests (generally, famous cricketers from the country playing England at the time - people like Imran Khan, and Sir. Viv Richards.)

The commentary on the game is relatively incidental, and is just an excuse to listen to what over the years has delivered some of radio’s funniest moments, since it’s completely unscripted, and more in the nature of a chat show.

However, there is an argument that actually WATCHING the play that they do talk about adds to the enjoyment. Hence, many people turn on the television (but with the sound muted) to add some context :-)

Regards,

Mark

Mark,

Ah!

Thank you for the insight. It is certainly a cultural phenomenon for sure, and something which you need to have been rasied with to an extent.

I love these things and would have done another since it was you doing the tagging :) As it is, I will enjoy yours!

My favorite thing about meme’s is many times I learn how much in common with others…
3 - I too was a high school theater nerd
7 - Yes! Although I don’t know what a MoMo is - I am game for most things food…unfortunately, my metabolism hasn’t been a resilient as yous :(

And you get to learn neat facts…
2 - really? Why?

Ah man, you got me!! I love cheesecake too. Not so much on the beer, unless it is a warm day and I am at a baseball game. I followed the link on the Momo’s but they don’t really sound that good. You did wet my curiosity, now heading over to ar.

April,

Well - I was a Physics major in college. Which means I had to use “c” a lot in my math calculations. And after a few hundred times you just know that c = 299792458 m/s - plain and simple. :-)

Ginger,

MoMo’s are great. Don’t go based on the description. If you get a chance there is a Nepalese restaurant in Berkeley: 1700 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley. Check it out. Ask for MoMo’s - if you don’t like it, I’ll send you a check for the bill. :-)

I almost did not catch that you tagged me - Let’s trade some Wiener Schnitzel and Apfelstrudel for MoMo’s. A dinner party is long overdue!

Shailesh- thanks for the restaurant tip. I can’t wait to try it out. I finally finished my meme. Despite my grumbling, I always enjoy writing them (after I am done!)
